• MLG Banning New Controller

Razer has a new controller out called the Razer Onza. The Onza controller features many differences compared to the standard Microsoft wired controller. This new controller more to offer including no slow turn, which in the competitive world of MLG, (Major League Gaming) makes a big difference.

MLG has recently decided to ban this controller due to the button mapping capabilities and the ease with which the buttons may be quickly modified.

    According to MLG Rules:
“Players may not use a controller with Turbo capabilities, Button Mapping capabilities, or Wireless capabilities, and they may not use a Play and Charge Kit. Controllers with Turbo capabilities allow Players to press a button that results in their Character performing a set of actions that would normally require the Player to press the same button multiple times. Controllers with Button mapping capabilities allow Players to map a button sequence to a specific button. Pressing that button results in their Character performing a set of actions that would normally require the Player to press multiple buttons.”

Due to MLG’s close relationship with MadCatz and their rumors of creating an “MLG Controller”, many of MLG’s players are angered over this because the controller hasn’t even been released, and they would like some testing before MLG jumps too conclusions.

The release date is sometime around the holidays of 2010.

MLG players can only use a specific controller. A wired 360 controller and if it's suspected of being modified then you're thrown out of competition. Personally I think that MLG should look into this controller because just like computer gamers, console gamers have personal and specific styles of playing. Some players like a lot of buttons, some like keeping it as simple as possible. But I think it should be up to the players. A player can decide if they want to buy and use an astro a40 headset or not so why should it not be the same with controllers.

Modified and turbo controllers I can understand for being illegal.
