• Sony Has Bigger Issues Than The PSN Outage

Sony has responded to some questions about their PSN outage but the answers are still a bit vague. They are calling the outage to the Playstation 3 and the Playstation store as "Outside Intrusions." (hackers) They are also keeping closed mouth about a possible security breach, could user information have been removed from the system?...they don't know yet.

We have some questions that SCEA PR Rep Eric Levine answered for VG Revolution. He is being very cautious answering questions about user information, like credit cards and personal data, being breached. Their main concern seems to be investigation that rather than getting the service back up and running.

    1) When will service return?
We were told 1 to 2 days but that was 3 days ago. It’s understandable that the downtime and fix might take time but gamers would like a window of time.
SCEA: We will announce through our websites as soon as there are any updates. We are currently investigating to determine the cause of this outage and are working to restore and maintain the services. Since this is an overall security related issue, we will not be providing further commentary for this case.

    2) Will Playstation Plus subscribers be reimbursed for downtime?
Sony rolled out this great subscription service which while doesn’t give extra online play, but does offer access to games that require downloads. For 4 days us Playstation Plus subscribers have not been able to download or access full game trials and other content that we have paid for.
SCEA: We will let our subscribers know as soon as there are updates.
    3) Is our personal information safe?
The first thing Sony should have investigated and informed us about is, if the hackers were able to access user personal information including credit card numbers. At this point we should know from Sony if our personal information is safe, and if it isn’t, then it’s only right that we know so we can take our own protective measures.
SCEA: We are currently investigating the matter, and will notify as soon as there are any updates.

    PSN's latest press release states:

"We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.
We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available."

I heard from a special contact that the PSN will be down between two ta two and a half weeks. I guess somebody had hacked the system so bad that they had to take it down and having to rebuild the network.
