This is the official announcement that the changes we have talked about are now underway. During this process site registration will be turned off and some site functions may or may not work. At some point that site itself may be turned off altogether will the data is being migrated to the new site.
While you may be able to play in the arcade and make posts, those things may or may not be carried over to the new site from this point on. This is due to having to pull a full site backup prior to then moving it into the new site.
We will not immediately take down the current site so if you have images or other items you wish to keep you can retrieve them. We recommend you do that now so not to lose them in the next few days as we will eventually remove all data at some point.
This change has been in process for a few months and we are very excited to finally bring it to you. The official launch will be a Beta launch and come within the next two to three days. During the beta we will be looking for your help in testing things out and general feedback. As long as everything goes will, you will not have to re-register on the new site but you may need to do a password rest. This is due to the encryption used on the different scripts inside the programs that run the current site and new site. We may initiate this on our end which means you will get an email with a link and all you have to do is click on that link and enter the password you want.
Remember, the new site will be on a different platform so your signatures and profile info will not carry over. Save that and anything else NOW!
Here is a small list of things to look forward to on the new site -
Bigger Arcade - At the very least we will have over 10,000 games to include most if not all of the current arcade games. (sorry but your scores will not carry over. for some this is good as now you all have a short time to own a highscore before our arcade champion gets them all!)
We will not have a separate content management or blogging system. All articles and other posts outside the forum area will be central and commenting will follow the article regardless where you read that article on the site. For those of you that are bloggers we will discuss giving you one of the following roles - Contributor or Author. This will allow you to post content on the site as you have been doing here. It is our goal to allow all users on the site to be a Contributor at some point.
A new feature will be the Activity Stream. This is similar to your wall on Facebook that tracks things people do and post. There will be a site wide stream as well as individual and group based streams.
The Group area will be completely new and packed with tons of features built into the core groups area. Each group (squad/clan) will have it's own Group Frontpage, Forum, chatroom, member list and other features. The functionality of the group area will be much easier as well. No more hunting around to accept join requests!
The site will have social interaction built in with Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and many others. If you choose to connect them together you can share posts on the site to and from those other sites. By doing so you can keep in touch with your personal social networks and your gaming friends all in one spot.
There are many other great things coming to both the site and our organization. Keep watch for more updates throughout the news few days.
Thanks to all of you for helping make this a great place for all gamers.
From your CrossEyed Owners and Staff.
