• The History of Controllers

We talk a lot around here about the new motion controllers. Who has the best, who stole what from Wii?
Let's take a look at the Big 3 controller history.

The above image is the chronological order of game controller history. The column on the left is the Wii, Middle is Sony and the right column is the Xbox.

If you can zoom in the image you can see the dates.
Nintendo had analog in September, 1996 for the 64. Sony gets it for the PS1 in May, 1998.

The 64 had Rumble pack in 1997, Sony's PS1 gets rumble May, 1998.

Microsoft's Sidewinder had triggers in 1995 years before the Dreamcast, and the 360 had triggers and the center guide button in 2005. Sony gets both in May, 2006.

The Wii gets motion controllers in 2005 and Motion Plus in 2008. Both Sony and Microsoft get motion controllers announced in 2009 to be releases in 2010. The Sony motion looks remarkable like the Wii's.

Only Microsoft's Kinect has 3 cameras and a definite up grade from the Wii knock off. They at least improved it.

Sony created the Playstation and has a huge following, but lately they appear to be following the footsteps of the Wii and Xbox when it comes to new ideas.

They need a new idea and I, being one of many, hope the give us a dual shock with some new brain storms. They have it in them to pull off.
