So long multi-player...

When I first purchased an Xbox 360 I had no real interest in multiplayer. In fact the first two games I bought for it were The Orange Box and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. After some time I decided to give LIVE a shot with Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and fell in love with the competitive side of gaming. This love only became greater with Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4. To tell you the TRUTH I spent almost a year only playing those two games. They were great fun and 90% of the people on my friend’s list come from those two games.
As of late I have been less and less satisfied with the competitive multiplayer experience. They are great for a few weeks, but after the newness wears off I become bored with them. It doesn’t help that I am below average at that side of gaming, but it’s more the idea that very few truly add anything new. They look and feel different at first, but after some time in the game they all basically play the same with a different skin.
As I said I’m not that great at FPS multiplayer and my only real advantage to any game of this type is map knowledge and understanding the ebb and flow of the game. When I was playing Halo 3 practically every night I had learned the maps, knew best how to play them and was relatively successful, but with my desire to play other games and my limited time online I no longer have the time to learn these aspect of the game. Sorry to say, but without my “battle knowledge” I get my ass kicked and getting my ass kicked, followed by a t-bag is not all that fun.
I tend to find the campaign significantly more appealing. I like the story, the characters, loot, missions, basically…feeling like I accomplished something with the game.
I will not completely disappear from multiplayer, but I doubt I will put much effort into “ranking up”, learning the maps or even being competitive, I will still play with friends on new games (Brink next month and Battlefield this fall), but most of my time will be in campaigns or co-op.
So good luck to you late night warriors, have fun dodging grenades, laying down fire and getting your ranks up. I have caves and dungeons to explore, worlds to save, relics to find, loot to gather, people to free, and a dozen other challenges. If you want to co-op the campaign hit me up…you might even be able to tempt me into a couple of online matches.
