Bungie has their last franchise wrapped up and shipped to your local gamer Mecca. Now they've moved into their new office at Activision and don't plan on moving for the next 10 years.
How's the move going? Community Director Brian Jarrard has confirmed that the studio is hard at work on a new engine.
"it’s actually in development, so I would say it’s in a stage where, technically we’re still at the end of a pre-production mode, But now that Reach is done the full weight of our team is rolling into the project. Real work is underway."
Bungie has used the same engine for some time and are going to change things up.
Creative Director Marcus Lehto told NowGamer: “We’ve been using the same engine since Halo and it’s been showing its age." "We revamped it for Halo 2 and 3 then added to it for ODST, but really needed to do a major overhaul with the graphics engine to be able to handle some of the aspects we wanted to achieve in Reach."
The Halo franchise was a Xbox exclusive but with the deal at Activision that is a thing of the past. Bungie is looking at multiple platforms for their new edition.
"That’s definitely our intent. We want multiple platforms and devices for this game, where it makes sense." "This isn’t just a bullet-point or sales target; we are looking at how to create more meaningful persistent interactions with our fans and how we can leverage new technologies to do that."
The possibilities are almost endless. The move from exclusive was a good one, but to Activision...we will see.
