Stuck on the Main Menu

Black Ops has been out for some time now and I thought it would be good to provide and hopefully receive some tips for being successful at Black Ops. I will never claim to be a great player, but in order to survive this world I have found these things helpful.

1. Know the maps: One of the easiest things any player of any skill can do is learn the maps. By knowing the maps and seeing where you play best from and seeing how players move about the map will give you an advantage. You can learn the maps “on the run” or use combat training to get comfortable with the maps.

2. Use Cover: It always funny to see how many players run in the open and never use cover in gun fights. It is more difficult to kill a player that is showing only 25% of their body then a player in the wide open. Take advantage of this try to engage the opposing player in gun fight on your terms…with you using cover and them in the open.

3. Guns: I’m not going to tell you what guns to use, but if you find a gun you are comfortable with then use it…as much as possible. I will suggest that on smaller maps where you are engaging in close quarter combat that the SMG being fired from the hip work better then the Assault rifles which have better range (this was something that wasn’t the case in MW2 where you could use the UMP from any range effectively).

4. Kill Streaks: Be smart with which kill streak you use. I know my level of game play and consistently use a simple 3-5-7 kill streak. I do this because I know I’m getting my spy plane 2-5 times a game and my napalm at least once a game. I get my last kill streak 60% (2/3) of the games I play. Basically if you’re not getting your kill streaks on a regular basis then you have them set up too high. The 8 – 9 – 11 combination looks appealing, but if you only get it once in 5 games then it is not worth having as your set up.

5. Theater: this is a tip I took from playing Halo 3. When you have a really good game go into theater and see what you did to have that game. In some circumstances you may have been “hosty”, but a lot of times it has to do with the way you played the match. The same can be said for bad games…watch them and see what you were doing wrong.

6. Have Fun: I see too many players get angry and stressed out while playing this game. Too many are concerned with their KD ratio and forget to enjoy the game. Run around kill folks, laugh at dolphin dives and when you do find yourself getting frustrated then play some zombies…nothing is more relaxing then popping off the head of the formally living as Tricky Dick,
